“Kinda Cussin” by Marlon Manuel

I agree with Marlon Manuel in his article “Kinda Cussin” that younger children these days are ruder and disrespectful compared to how it used to be back in the old days. Firstly, children are starting to use foul language at a young age. Secondly, parents aren’t as strict as their parents were back then. Lastly, peer pressure plays a major role in how children act and behave around each other and at school
Children these days have a really bad mouth at a young age. For instance, I baby sat this little boy who was around 7 years old and you wouldn’t believe the bad language that came out his mouth. I was shocked and surprised to hear him say the things he was saying. I didn’t even know he knew half the words that he said. In my opinion, young children who be using curse words or even words that are on the borderline of cussing hear it being said at home by parents or older siblings. Adults in general are using this kind of language in front of young children. “I have recently heard that word uttered in a second-grade class and in a Presbyterian church- by the teacher and preacher, respectively.” This quote shows that adults don’t care the kind of language they use in front of children.
Parents today don’t care that much if their children are using cuss words or words on the borderline. For example, my little sister had said the word “bitch” one time and my mom had put soap in her mouth, but now when she be using bad language she just tells my little sister that she can say those words only if she know what they mean and how to spell it. To me, parents still shouldn’t let their children say those kinds of words even if they do know how to spell it and what it means because that’s just setting a bad example for them. Parents are letting their children get away with too many things and some parents say they are the way they are because they don’t want to treat their children how their parents treated them when they were growing up. That’s still no excuse though. Children have no curfew and they be staying out late do who knows what. Parents are allowing their children to watch rated R movies and play violent video games. That’s another way children get there bad language and actions from. “She hears them in songs or on MTV.” This quote hears proves my point about how some TV shows and music are sending bad messages out to young children.
“At lot of my guy friends use a lot more slang words and stuff.” Peers are a big part of how children act shown in that quote. At school, children use bad language and act inappropriate around each other. There’s no one around to stop them from behaving that way, especially at school where everyone does it. Some children probably just uses cuss words at school just to fit in with the cool kids. “We use them regularly, La Blanc said of her and her friends.”
The uses of borderline expletives play a huge role in our culture. Children use foul language in front of adults. Children don’t care how they act in front of people. The disrespect and actions young children are performing these days are out of control. Parents need to take control of their children and the way they let their children act. At school, children should not just use bad language to fit in but stand out by not using those kinds of words at all.
